Make sure WSE is inside the Mount&Blade Warband folder, and not anywhere else. Make sure to run the normal WSELoader, and not the one for Windows XP. 
Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Package (x86). Install the patches in proper order, older patch first, newest patch last.
If you are on GOG use the Key Converter first.
Close the launcher and launch the game as administrator through the WSEloader.exe or it's shortcut to play WSC. Under "Video" enable "Load Textures On Demand". Launch the game through Steam/GOG if applicable. 
To restore the game to default state, which will prevent WSE from operating: Open "Properties" in Steam and click "Verify integrity of game files" in the tab "Local Files". Workshop mods will only be accessible using the instructions in Troubleshooting. Steam Achievements will not be available with WSE installed. WSE removes APIs normally delivered with games, so manual verification will sometimes be required.
(Optional: Create a shortcut of the WSEloader.exe and move it to the desktop.). Go to the "WSE" folder inside the Warsword Conquest folder and copy all contents, except for the "WSELoaderWindowsXP" folder, into the game directory. Go to the folder called "1.174 original exe for steam users" inside the Warsword Conquest folder and copy "mb_warband.exe" into the game directory. Go to the game directory and rename "mb_warband.exe" to things such as "mb_warband_old.exe". Repeat step 2 and 3 for the new patch and the loose file. Download the 2nd Patch and the map.7z: (Discord Only). Overwrite the files of the base mod with the patch. Download the patch: First Patch Download. Install the following Patches: Southlands Final Quickpatch. This is how the path to the contents of the mod should look like. Make sure you don't insert an additional folder inbetween from the extraction. Go to the game directory and copy the mod folder into "modules". Do not use WinRAR, as it corrupts the extracted files in entirely unpredictable fashion. Extract the files using 7-Zip to a folder you create named "Warsword Conquest Southlands Edition" as shown below. Download the latest base version of the mod: Southlands May Download.
